MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Michael Mersch’s second goal was the game-winner Saturday as Wisconsin beat St. Cloud State to spoil the Huskies’ hopes of winning the MacNaughton Cup title outright.
St. Cloud State instead will settle for a co-championship with Minnesota, which beat Bemidji State on Saturday.
Mersch scored his first goal in the first period. Frankie Simonelli also scored for the Badgers (17-12-7, 13-8-7), who got 18 saves from Joel Rumpel.
The Badgers outshot St. Cloud State 31-20.
Andrew Prochno scored both goals for the Huskies (21-14-1, 18-10-1).
The Huskies will have the top seed for the WCHA playoffs.
