MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minneapolis Foundation is conducting a public awareness campaign in an effort to close the achievement gap in Minnesota schools.

The campaign is called RESET Education. It calls for real-time use of data on student progress, high expectations, strong school principals, effective teaching and more time in class, including an additional 15 school days a year.

Sandra Vargas, president of the Minneapolis Foundation, says the achievement gap has both a moral and an economic dimension. She says closing the gap and graduating students of color at the same rate as whites would drive economic growth.

The campaign includes public service announcements before movies at several theaters, as well as online, print and broadcast ads. Organizers also plan a series of forums with national education experts.
