DeLaSalle, Red Wing Advance To 3A Championship

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Two-time defending champion DeLaSalle will play Red Wing for the three-peat in the Class 3A girls state basketball title game.

Allina Starr scored 17 points for DeLaSalle in a 67-42 victory over Monticello in the semifinals on Thursday, and Tyseanna Johnson added 15 points. The second-seeded Islanders forced 27 turnovers and held the Magic to 2-for-15 shooting from 3-point range.

The championship is Saturday at Target Center.

In the other semifinal, Tesha Buck scored 18 points to help Red Wing hang on to beat Richfield 61-59 despite 29 points and 12 rebounds from star Jessica January.

January had five points in the final 15 seconds to keep the Spartans in it, but the Wingers made seven of 10 free throws over the last 53 seconds to stay in front.
