POLK COUNTY, Wis. (WCCO) – A two–car crash turned fatal Friday morning in Polk County, Wis., after a driver veered into oncoming traffic and collided with a van carrying a mother and her three children, police say.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of a 1998 Buick Regal died after hitting the van that Tracy Mattson, 42, of St. Croix Falls, was driving at about 7:05 a.m. Friday on STH 87 north of 235th Avenue in Eureka Township.
Nick, 15, Katie, 11, and Lindsay, 13, were in the van, too.
The Mattsons were taken to the St. Croix Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries and the name of the Buick’s deceased driver is being withheld pending family notification.
The crash remains under investigation.
