MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — One person is dead and several others were injured in an early morning crash in Polk County.

The crash, which occurred around 7:05 a.m. on Friday, happened on state Highway 87, north of 235th Avenue in Eureka Township.

Authorities responded to the crash and found two vehicles. They say a 1998 Buick Regal was traveling south on Highway 87 when the driver lost control on the snow-covered roads and entered the northbound land.

After crossing the intersection, the driver struck a northbound 2005 Toyota Sienna van with four occupants, including three children.

Police say 42-year-old Tracy Mattson, of St. Croix Falls, was driving with her three children when the crash occurred.

All of the occupants were transported to St. Croix Regional Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the Buick Regal was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver’s name is being withheld until family can be notified.

The crash remains under investigation.
