ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) – Gov. Mark Dayton and his family are getting ready to say goodbye to one of their beloved pets.

Dayton’s German Shepherd “Mesabi,” likely has a cancerous tumor on his spleen. Dayton announced the news on his Facebook page on Monday.

Dayton said they are not going to put Mesabi through chemotherapy treatments and the family said they’ll treasure every day they have left with the dog. About two years ago, Mesabi’s sister Dakota died from the same condition.
