Dayton Proclaims Minnesota Agriculture Week

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Gov. Mark Dayton has proclaimed this week as Minnesota Agriculture Week, in conjunction with Tuesday's 40th Anniversary of National Agriculture Day.

The governor's proclamation notes that Minnesota agriculture generated $18.5 billion in cash receipts and $6.8 billion in exports in 2011. It says more than 10 percent of the jobs in Minnesota are linked to agriculture. The state has more than 80,000 farms, comprising more than half the state's land acres.

Agriculture Commissioner Dave Frederickson says Minnesota ranks sixth in the nation in agricultural production.

The top ranking Minnesota counties in agricultural production are Stearns, Martin, Renville, Blue Earth and Nobles.
