Gopher Women Will Host Ball State In WNIT

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – After failing to reach the NCAA Basketball Tournament, the University of Minnesota women's basketball team learned it will have at least one home game in the National Invitation Tournament.

The Gophers (18-13, 7-9) will host Ball State (15-15) Friday night at Williams Arena in the opening round of the WNIT. It's the second appearance in the tournament for the Gophers, who were last there in the 2006-07 season.

That year, Minnesota beat Illinois-Chicago 97-54 in the first round before losing 73-57 to Western Kentucky in the second round.

It will be the second time Minnesota has played Ball State. The Cardinals beat the Gophers 79-70 in the season-opener of the 1999-2000 season. Ball State finished this season with a 12-4 record in the Mid-American Conference.

The game time for Friday has not yet been announced.
