OLD DUTCH HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Tuesday, March 19, 2013:
Carlie Wagner
Sport – basketball
High School – New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva
Class – Junior
The junior guard was the marquee player in last week’s girls state basketball tournament, leading New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva to the Class 2A state championship and adding her name to the tournament record book several times over. Wagner, who has made a verbal commitment to play at the University of Minnesota, scored a tournament-record 50 points in the Panthers’ 60-59 victory over Braham in the championship game. Her 129 total points in three games at state set another record, breaking her own mark of 112 last year when NRHEG finished third. She also set single-game and tournament records for field goals attempted and field goals made; those records had been held by early 1980s pioneers such as Janet Karvonen of New York Mills, Kelly Skalicky of Albany and Kay Konerza of Lester Prairie. Carlie is a member of the National Honor Society and volunteers at church activities, school activities and referees basketball games for younger kids.
Congratulations to Carlie Wagner for being this weeks Old Dutch High School Athlete of the week!
