Suspect Dead After Crashing Into State Trooper With Motorcycle

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A suspect was killed Saturday night after crashing his motorcycle into a State Trooper, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The incident happened at about 6:23 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of County Roads 10 and 15 in Cottonwood County, which is in southwestern Minnesota. The Cottonwood County Sheriff's Office had received a report of a man with a knife who had already fled from deputies in Cottonwood County and Murray County in separate chases.

A short time after those pursuits ended, a State Trooper was heading east on County Road 10 when he spotted the suspect ahead of him. The trooper was stopped at the time and activated his emergency lights. The motorcyclist then accelerated toward him and hit him head-on. The motorcyclist, later identified as Chad R. Danneman, died at the scene.

The State Trooper, identified as Jeffery J. Stearns of Marshall, suffered minor injuries.
