MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities say a 79-year-old woman was killed Tuesday after she failed to stop for a stop sign and was hit by a semi near Foley.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident at about 7:43 a.m. Tuesday near the area of County Roads 12 and 78. When they arrived, they discovered a semi-truck was headed westbound on County Road 12 and a car was headed southbound on County Road 78. An investigation showed the woman driving the car failed to stop before entering the intersection and being hit by the semi.

The victim was identified by authorities as Carol Theis of Pierz. The driver of the semi, a 65-year-old Royalton man, suffered serious injuries in the crash and is in stable condition at St. Cloud Hospital.

The accident is still under investigation by the Benton County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol.
