Recovering Pup Gets Sweet Surprise From Cupcake Benefit

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A once badly-abused dog is now getting extra help thanks to hundreds of sweet strangers.

WCCO-TV reported Franco's story earlier this week.

He's a pocket pit bull that was beaten by some teenagers in Blaine. But Secondhand Hounds is now looking after him.

To help cover his vet bills, Sweet Retreat at 50th and France in Minneapolis sold special Franco cupcakes Friday.

But he shop's connection to Franco may not end there.

"I did put in for an adoption application, so I'm hoping once he's well enough he can come to my home and meet and greet my other animals," said Robin Johnson, the owner of Sweet Retreat. "He would fit in and that would just be the fairytale ending to all of this."

The cupcake sale was a labor of love, as the bakers worked as fast as they could to keep up with demand.

Sweet Retreat sold 1,000 cupcakes in the first hour alone.
