CaringBridge Founder Announces Minn. Run For Congress
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The founder of the CaringBridge Web site says she's running for Congress in Minnesota's 2nd Congressional District.
Sona Mehring announced her bid Tuesday that could pit her against veteran Republican Rep. John Kline in 2014. Mehring is running as a Democrat, but she's not the only candidate from her party expressing interest. Kline's 2012 challenger Mike Obermueller, a former state representative, has been gearing up for another campaign.
Mehring founded CaringBridge in 1997 as a way to let families dealing with a health crisis keep friends and relatives abreast of developments.
Kline has said he won't announce his political intentions until summer. He hasn't ruled out running for a statewide office. Kline has won the district south of the Twin Cities six times, but redistricting made it more competitive turf.
