MN Man Flees Police, Crashes Into Parked Cop Car

RENVILLE COUNTY, Minn. (WCCO) -- A 22-year-old man from Hector, Minn., was fleeing authorities before crashing into an unoccupied parked police car Saturday evening, according to the state patrol.

Cody Kirgiss was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital, sustaining severe head trauma after a crash at 7:07 p.m. Saturday on Highway 212 near Olivia, Minn., in Renville County.

The patrol had received a driving complaint of the 2001 Chevy Venture Kirgiss was driving, and began pursuing him westbound on Highway 212. A Renville County Sheriff's Deputy then parked his squad car in the eastbound lane.

That's when Kirgiss drove over the center line and struck the empty cop car head on. That's when Kirgiss' vehicle onto its side, catching fire.
