MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The leaders of four Minnesota political parties jointly announced Wednesday that they support legal gay marriage.

Leaders of the Libertarian Party, the Green Party, the Independence Party, and the DFL Party called for the state Legislature to vote on gay marriage this year.

“The message that was sent last November was a message affirming the right of same sex couples to enjoy the same freedom that…many of us who are married now do,” said Ken Martin of the Minnesota-DFL Party.

If lawmakers approve same sex marriage, Minnesota would be the tenth state in the U.S. to legalize it.
