Off The Menu Guests From Dara Moskowitz Grumdahl: 4/13/13
We can’t promise any “Bizarre Foods” on weekly episodes of WCCO’s new food show “Off the Menu”. But for this Saturday, Dara Moskowitz Grumdahl dove in headfirst with the host of the Travel Channel show’s crazy culinary journey and Minnesota’s own, Andrew Zimmern!
Chef and TV Star Andrew Zimmern has traveled the globe in search of the strangest things eaten around the planet but he still knows about the things most of us will eat. And he’s hosting a show at the State Theater (along with last week’s guest Anthony Bourdain) called “Guts and Glory: An Evening with Anthony Bourdain and Andrew Zimmern”. For tickets and more information, click here!
Andrew also is debuting a food stand at Target Field for hungry and slightly adventurous Twins Fans. His Lamb and Goat Burger is a unique entry into baseball fare and early reviews say it’s a worthy bite. You can find more on the new Target Field food here and see a photo gallery here.
Dara also shared her never-to-be-missed Top 5. This week, you may need to unbutton that top one after you sample her “Top 5 Fried Chicken” in town. Crispy outside, juicy inside and without question a delicious way to indulge yourself, the Twin Cities have some deep-fried gems and Dara tells you where to find the best of the best.
Finally, Dara chatted with a husband and wife duo who have become the taste of the town. Isaac Becker and Nancy St. Pierre, the married owners behind new Burch Steak, plus the still hot foodie destinations Bar La Grassa and 112 Eatery, talk about what it’s like to be in business together. Would they have been able to do this if they weren’t a couple, and are a lot of sharp knives the secret to marriage?
In all seriousness, when it comes to Minneapolis’ top restaurants, Isaac and Nancy are definitely on a hot-streak. Their first place, 112 Eatery is more than just a James Beard winner. A look at WCCO’s Best of the Twin Cities section will tell you about the depth of how good the food is there (not to mention how reasonable it is for what you are getting). Best Places open late, Best Restaurants close to Target Field, Best Small Plates, Best Burgers are just a few compliments we’ve given the restaurant and we’re not alone, right Dara? And don’t forget Bar La Grassa and their delicious homemade pastas (do NOT miss the Soft Eggs and Lobster Bruschetta). Burch might be new but is off to a great start for steak lovers.
Don’t forget to email your questions for Dara and keep coming back each week for more great ideas and meals from the Twin Cities top food critic, Dara Moskowitz Grumdahl and “Off the Menu”, Saturdays at 11:00 on WCCO!
