MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Authorities are reminding the public and pet owners to be cautious around ice after a dog fell through ice on Sand Lake Thursday.

At 4:17 p.m., the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a dog that had fallen through the ice of Sand Lake near Hibbing.

After enduring nearly an hour in the cold water, “Buddy” was rescued by the Silica Volunteer Fire Department.

The ice on area lakes is thinning rapidly and could pose danger to both people and pets.
