Man Arrested In Murder After Minneapolis Street Fight

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Minneapolis Police said Thursday they've made an arrest in the death of a man after a fight outside a restaurant back in early March.

Authorities said Gerald McCormick Maguire, 29, was arrested Tuesday afternoon on the 400 block of University Avenue East in St. Paul in connection with the death of Jimmie Herron.

On March 4, Minneapolis Police responded to a report of a fight at about 1 p.m. outside a restaurant on the 2700 block of East Lake Street. When authorities arrived, they found Herron injured after being involved in a physical altercation. He was complaining of a pre-existing medical condition.

Maguire had already fled the scene when authorities arrived and Herron declined medical assistance. He was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he later died. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner ruled Herron's death a homicide.

Maguire is currently booked in the Hennepin County Jail on suspicion of murder and is awaiting formal charges. The incident is still under investigation.
