Another Formerly Undecided Lawmaker Backs Gay Marriage

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- A DFL state representative, who's also a Lutheran pastor, says he'll vote to legalize gay marriage.

Rep. Tim Faust, of Hinckley, is among a group of rural House Democrats whose votes are pivotal to the gay marriage bill's success or failure. He had been undecided coming into the session, but says Monday he thinks the bill would simply let individual churches decide whether or not to perform same-sex unions.

Faust says he knows some constituents will be disappointed but he hopes they give him a chance to explain his decision.

More lawmakers are deciding how to vote as the gay marriage issue heats up at the Capitol this week. The House Ways and Means Committee is reviewing the bill on Monday, and votes in the full House and Senate could happen soon.
