Salvation Army Collects Students' Discarded Items

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The University of Minnesota is partnering with the Salvation Army to recycle student furniture and other items discarded curbside at the beginning and end of each semester.

The Salvation Army will run on- and -off campus collection routes through June 1 as students are on the move and dumping unwanted goods that might otherwise end up in landfills.

The university's ReUse Program sets up a free store at a warehouse from May 28 to June 1. All the items collected and displayed at the store will be offered free to students and residents of participating neighborhoods. The university says anything left over will be offered at the store in September.

Students and residents of the Marcy-Holmes and Southeast Como neighborhoods can also drop off items directly at the warehouse.
