Weekend Road Work To Cause Headaches In Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – If you're going to be driving around Minneapolis this weekend, prepare to sit in traffic and have plenty of patience as some major road closures will affect the area.

Officials with the Minnesota Department of Transportation said to expect delays as Interstate 35W will be closed between Highway 55 and the I-94-35W split. Eastbound I-94 will also be closed between I-35W and the I-94 split. Westbound I-94 will be closed between Highway 280 and the downtown Minneapolis exits.

Motorists are urged to give themselves extra time this weekend as road work begins at 10 p.m. Friday. It's right in the middle of several events, including a Minnesota Twins series against the Baltimore Orioles, a big event at the State Theatre, Nicholas David at First Avenue, farmers markets opening, performances at the Guthrie Theatre and all day baseball at the Metrodome.

Officials said they expect the road work to be completed in time for the Monday morning commute.
