Hundreds March Against Monsanto
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - What's really in your food? That's the question thousands across the country – and in St. Paul - asked as they rallied against the agriculture company Monsanto on Saturday.
Hundreds gathered at the State Capitol for the "March Against Monsanto" Saturday afternoon. Similar scenes took place at more than 200 cities across the country.
The protesters want people to know more about genetically modified foods (GMOs), which Monsanto, an agriculture and seed company, produces.
Those crops, such as corn and soybean, are engineered to resist insecticides and add nutritional benefits to increase the global food supply.
But protesters say GMOs aren't always safe.
The FDA has said there's no difference between GMO and organically-grown foods.
Monsanto argues mandatory labeling of food as GMOs would be confusing.
