Caregiver Photographs Client On Toilet, Posts Picture On Instagram

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A staff member at Deer Crest assisted living home in Red Wing was fired after taking a photo of a client on the toilet with her phone and uploading it to Instagram, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.

In the report filed April 17, the investigator discovered that the employee took the picture without the client's knowledge as the client was on the toilet with bare skin showing up to the upper hip area.

A non-employee of the facility reported seeing the photo on Instagram, the photo-based social media website, and the staff person admitted to taking the photo. The employee was terminated and directed to remove the picture from her phone and from any social media site.

The investigator also reported that in the employee handbook, the facility states that photographing a client is strictly prohibited.
