Frank Kimmel Races To 78th ARCA Victory

ELKO, Minn. (AP) — Frank Kimmel moved within of victory of tying Iggy Katona's ARCA Racing Series record Saturday, winning the Akona 250 at Elko Speedway for his 78th win.

The 51-year-old Kimmel led the last 50 laps en route to his second victory of the season.

"Feels great," Kimmel said. "I love this place."

Tom Hessert was second, followed by Jonathan Eilen, Justin Boston and Ken Schrader.

Kimmel took the lead on the 200th lap after pitting for two tires during a caution, a decision he credited to crew chief Jariod Prince.

"Jariod made a great call," said Kimmel, also the winner at Talladega. "We came in and put on two tires there at the end. We went with four tires early and the car ran well. After getting two tires, it took six or seven laps, but after that our car was really good."

He passed Benjamin eight laps after the restart.

"The race was won on that restart," Hessert said. "We definitely had something for him, but we needed a caution or something to bunch of the field. I'm happy with second, but then again, I'm disappointed. It's bittersweet. When you finish second, you always think maybe you could have finished first."
