Minneapolis Locks Reopen to Recreational Boats

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has reopened its three Minneapolis locks to recreational boats.

The locks on the Mississippi River reopened Friday. The Corps closed the locks to recreational boats on May 23 due to high water flows.

The closures affected the Upper and Lower St. Anthony Falls locks in downtown Minneapolis, and Lock and Dam 1 next to Minnehaha Park between Minneapolis and St. Paul.

For safety, the Corps closes these locks to recreational boaters when river flows exceed 30,000 cubic feet per second.

Even though the locks have reopened, the Corps advises boaters to be careful because currents are still high.
