Feed My Starving Children Says It's Looking For Summer Help

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A local organization is calling for volunteers this morning  to help feed malnourished children around the world.

Feed My Starving Children sends packaged meals to starving kids in 70 countries.  They need your help this summer to get the food there on time.

Officials said they're especially in need of volunteers over the summer because that's when school is out. Several schools take field trips to Feed My Starving Children during the year to help volunteer. Judy Watke with FMSC said they need help from volunteers during the summer because several families go on vacation, but hunger does not.

Officials said by the end of the summer, they hope to pack 800,000 meals for hungry children. Watke said FMSC is looking for about 4,000 volunteers throughout the summer, and they encourage sports teams, business groups, families, summer school groups and even scout groups to come out.

Watke said there are five shifts per day, six days per week, to help pack meals. Day shifts are two hours, and evening shifts are 90 minutes. FMSC has locations in Eagan, Chanhassen and Coon Rapids.
