Exploding Target Kills Fillmore Man

ARENDAHL TOWNSHIP, Minn. (WCCO) - A bachelor party near Arendahl Township in Fillmore County turned deadly Saturday when a man standing behind a shooter was hit with shrapnel.

The Fillmore County Sheriff's office says Jeffrey Taylor and his sons were invited to the party, where people were shooting at explosive targets made of Tannerite.

Sheriff Daryl Jennsen said metal objects exploded with the Tannerite, sending shrapnel flying. A piece hit Taylor in the stomach. He died minutes later.

"The tragedy is that someone lost their life, and to make it worse, of course, is the fact that the victim's sons were with him," Jennsen said. "And of course it's the day before Father's Day. So it's just a horrible tragedy."

Jennsen said everyone is cooperating with the investigation, and it's too early to know if anyone will be charged with a crime.
