Heavy Gophers Presence On U.S. Women's Hockey Team

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Five current or former University of Minnesota women's hockey players have made the U.S. national team roster for pre-Olympic competition.

USA Hockey announced Monday that defensemen Megan Bozek, Anne Schleper and Lee Stecklein and forwards Amanda Kessel and Gigi Marvin are on the 25-player team for the summer and fall. The Americans will have 21 players on the squad next February for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Kessel and Stecklein will receive redshirts for the 2013-14 season with the Gophers to train with the national team.

Bozek just finished her college career after helping Minnesota win the national championship in March.

Schleper was on the 2012 national title team, and Marvin was on the 2010 U.S. Olympic team.
