MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Police in Albert Lea say they arrested a 17-year-old boy Sunday after he allegedly stole a Jeep and the boat it was towing, and led officers on a not-so-high-speed chase through a residential neighborhood.

Sgt. Tim Harves said police got a call shortly after 3 a.m. saying that a Jeep Grand Cherokee had just been stole from a driveway on the 400 block of Maurice Avenue. The Jeep, the caller added, was towing a boat.

When officers drove to the area, they found the Jeep going westbound on Fountain Street near Vine Avenue. Officers tried to stop the Jeep, but it fled at low speeds through the surrounding neighborhoods. When the did Jeep stop in the Lakeview School parking lot, the suspect got out and ran.

After a foot chase, officers arrested a 17-year-old boy from Austin, Minn. Alcohol was detected on him, police say.

The boy now faces felony-level theft and DWI charges.
