Former Minn. Lawmaker To Seek Top Elections Post

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- A third Democrat says he's filing paperwork to begin a campaign for Minnesota secretary of state.

Former Rep. Jeremy Kalin planned to join the race Tuesday. Two others, state Rep. Debra Hilstrom and veteran elections administrator Rachel Larson Bohman, are also running. No Republicans have formally announced their intentions but several have expressed interest in seeking the job as the state's top elections official.

The contest is without an incumbent because two-term Secretary of State Mark Ritchie is stepping down after the 2014 election.

Kalin served in the Minnesota House for two terms, leaving after the 2010 election to become an energy consultant. He represented a Chisago County district north of the Twin Cities, but he now lives in Minneapolis with his wife and two young children.
