Franken To Host Discussion Of Retirement Planning

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Sen. Al Franken and a fellow U.S. senator are holding a Minneapolis round-table to discuss challenges to financially planning for retirement.

Franken and Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio are hosting the event Friday at a Minneapolis YMCA. Brown is chairman of a Senate subcommittee on Social Security and retirement, and Franken is a member of the Senate's Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.

Franken and Brown will hear from Minnesotans in their 50s, 60s and 70s who will share their own challenges in trying to plan for a financially secure retirement. Several retirement experts will be on hand as well as former Minnesota Attorney General Skip Humphrey, now an official at AARP-Minnesota.

Franken is up for re-election next year. Several Republicans are vying to run against him.
