Mpls Bicycle Police Give Children Two-Wheeled Gifts

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- After some Minneapolis bicycle police officers stopped to help a woman fix her car, the cops noticed her children didn't have many toys, including bikes.

After using some private funds put aside for bike safety, the officers brought five new bikes the children on Tuesday.

The officers got the children fitted on their new wheels and handed out new helmets, too.

"Now these kids have bikes ... so they can just come outside, put on their helmets and be kids," officer Mike Kirchen said.

Police Chief Janee Harteau took part, too, as the officers say part of their job on bike patrol is to be able to connect better with kids.
