ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) – Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton is making a personal pitch to an out-of-state company to add jobs in his state though he isn’t identifying his destination, recruitment target or what possible subsidies are on the table.

Dayton traveled Wednesday to an undisclosed location with his economic development commissioner.

A vague description of the Democrat’s trip appeared on his public schedule, but staff wouldn’t elaborate. Minnesota governors, including Dayton, have resisted requests to release their private calendars.

Spokesman Bob Hume says the governor is trying to strike a balance between a “go anywhere and do anything” approach to luring jobs with a realization that public courtships can backfire.

Hume wouldn’t say if this is Dayton’s first contact with the firm in question or if the privacy is at the company’s insistence.
