General Mills Donates Wedding Cakes To Same-Sex Couples

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Same-sex couples are just a few days away from being able to be legally wed in Minnesota, and one area business is offering some of those couples wedding cakes free of charge.

Minnesota-based General Mills announced they'll be donating cakes for couples getting married at midnight at Minneapolis City Hall and St. Paul's Como Park Conservatory.

On Monday, couples were invited to taste-test several kinds and pick which kind they wanted for their special day.

So far, Ramsey County has processed 155 same sex marriage applications since June 6. That's roughly an increase of 33 percent in all marriage licenses.

Hennepin County's six public service centers don't differentiate between heterosexual and same-sex license applications. But County Registrar Mark Chapin says the total number of marriage applications is up some 26 percent over the same period a year ago.
