MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 7-year-old boy is being treated at an area hospital after he was found unconscious in Wirth Lake Friday afternoon, according to Minneapolis Police.

Keylen Rashan Thorton was initially reported missing by his grandmother at 2 p.m. Lifeguards cleared the lake and searched for Keylen, who was found in a swimming area that is four to six feet deep.

Lifeguards performed CPR on him and were able to detect a pulse. He was taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.

A lifeguard, Jonathan Patrick, said the beach was busy when Keylen disappeared.

“You have to be vigilant,” Patrick said. “You have to constantly scan the water keep a count of how many people are in how many people are out, and try to prevent this.”

Keylen’s condition has not been released.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s office is investigating the situation.
