Movie Blog: 'Sharknado' Warning Issued For The Twin Cities

A few weeks back, the SyFy Channel premiered the meticulously bad movie Sharknado, which inspired an impressive celebrity tweeting spree from the likes of Mia Farrow and Cory Monteith (his last two tweets on earth were about the b-movie). If you love cheesy movies but have boycotted SyFy since they canceled Mystery Science Theater 3000 in the late 90s, you're in luck!

Fathom Events is bring Sharknado to the big screen at three Twin Cities theaters Friday at midnight. Audiences at Eagan 16, Brooklyn Center 20 and Showplace ICON at the West End in St. Louis Park will be treated to solid, green-screen reliant performances by the likes of American Pie's Tara Reid, recent Chippendales dancer and former 90210 quasi-hunk Ian Ziering and John Heard from the Home Alone series.

Despite all the hoopla on the Twitterverse about this schlock sandwich, Sharknado's ratings were not even all that impressive for a SyFy Channel movie premiere. But the film, whose special effects actually look semi descent for a movie that's purposely made to be ridiculed, has taken on a life of its own.

It's a midnight movie made to be a midnight movie, and that alone may be enough to upset The Room's Tommy Wiseau.
