ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton says he doesn’t expect his lieutenant governor to decide for months on whether she’ll run with him for a second term.

The first-term Democrat addressed the issue Tuesday after Lt. Gov. Yvonne Prettner Solon was quoted last week wavering about trying for re-election. In a MinnPost story, Prettner Solon said she and Dayton don’t talk regularly.

Prettner Solon previously told The Associated Press that she would weigh whether she could be effective and get support in the role before deciding.

Dayton wouldn’t comment on his relationship with Prettner Solon, a former state senator from Duluth. He says they plan to revisit their political bond later in the year but made clear, “It’s her decision to make.”
