Woman Rescued After Sliding 50 Feet Down Red Wing Bluff
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A woman is in the hospital after sliding down 50 feet down a hill at Barn Bluff in Red Wing Tuesday morning, according to a fire official.
Red Wing Fire Captain Jim Eppen says emergency responders were dispatched to Barn Bluff shortly before 10 a.m.
An adult female was hiking with two other people on the north trail of the bluff when she slipped and slid about 50 feet down the bluff, according to Eppen.
Two rescue workers were lowered to the area from a Minnesota State Patrol helicopter and the victim was lifted out in a rescue basket.
“Over the past 1 ½ years Red Wing Fire has been training along with the State Patrol and St. Paul Fire for just such an occasion. Today, that training paid off and the rescue went very well,” the Red Wing Fire Department said in a statement.
Eppen said one firefighter paramedic received a minor injury due to a falling rock, but has declined treatment at this time.
The victim was taken to Red Wing Hospital and subsequently transported – in stable condition—to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester by helicopter.
