Police: One In Custody After S Mpls. Standoff

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A standoff in south Minneapolis Wednesday evening ended with homes being evacuated and one person in police custody.

Minneapolis spokeswoman Cyndi Barrington said the person was taken into custody shortly before 10 p.m.

The standoff started after police got a welfare check call at 6 p.m. in the area of 53rd Street and 36th Avenue South. An emotionally disturbed man was believed to have weapons in his house.

Four or five houses surrounding the man's were evacuated before the suspect was arrested.

Authorities have not clarified if the person taken into custody was the disturbed man.
