12-Year-Old Dies In ATV Accident

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 12-year-old boy has died following an ATV accident in Alden Township, according to the Polk County's Sheriff's Office.

On Sunday at 12:29 p.m., the sheriff's office was notified of the ATV accident and responded, along with Garfield Fire Department and Osceola area ambulance.

After a preliminary investigation, it's believed that the ATV was being operated by the 12-year-old boy when it overturned and came to rest on top of him.

The boy was taken to Osceola Medical Center and then to Regions Hospital. Despite life-saving measures at the scene of the accident and by hospital staff, the boy died at Regions Hospital.

The boy's identify has not been released until his family can make necessary notifications.

The crash remains under investigation.
