Filmmaker McQueen Coming To Minn.'s Walker

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — British filmmaker Steve McQueen is coming to the Walker Arts Center in Minneapolis for a retrospective of his work.

McQueen is scheduled to speak Nov. 9 at Walker Cinema. Tickets for McQueen's talk and the regional premiere of his new film, "12 Years a Slave," go on sale to Walker members Tuesday.

Tickets to the general public go on sale Sept. 17. The price is $20 for Walker members, $25 for the public.

McQueen's new film is about a free man sold into slavery. British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor plays Solomon Northup, a New York violinist kidnapped and sold into slavery in 1841.

It's McQueen's first visit to the Walker. His films "Shame" and "Hunger" also will be screened.

The retrospective runs Oct. 30-Nov. 9.
