We’re already to week 3 of the High School football season.  The temps don’t show it but halfway through September means it’s time to separate the contenders from the pretenders.  Here’s the rundown for Week 3 on the WCCO Radio Rally!

WCCO Radio Power Poll Week 3:

1. Eden Prairie: 2-0 after clobbering Elk River and a solid win over a strong Prior Lake team 35-21 (at Totino-Grace 9/12)
2. East Ridge; 2-0 and dominant wins over White Bear Lake and Roseville to open the season (at Woodbury 9/13)
3. Minnetonka: 3-0 after a tight, 3-point win over Osseo 31-28 (vs. Bloomington-Jefferson 9/12)
4. Totino Grace: A huge win on the road at Edina 28-7 brings the Eagles to 2-0 but a monster matchup with Eden Prairie awaits (vs. Eden Prairie 9/12)
5. Maple Grove: Good wins over Armstrong and Hopkins with running back Tahi Nomane leading the way (vs. Elk River 9/13)
6. Lakeville North: Maybe a surprising 2-0 with wins over arch-rival Lakeville South and Bloomington Kennedy on their resume (vs. Eastview 9/13)
7. Andover: 2-0 after blasting Champlin Park and Anoka in the first two weeks…QB Connor Wilkie has 8 TD passes already! (vs. Coon Rapids 9/13)
8. Hutchinson: 2-0 and rolled over rival Glencoe-Silver Lake last week 36-7.  Next up is a game in Kansas (at Haysville Campus, Wichita, KS 9/13)
9. Mahtomedi: Drilled Richfield last week 62-7 to go 2-0 (vs. North St. Paul 9/13)
10. Owatonna: 2-0 start for Big 9 Conference favorites (at Mankato-West 9/13)

Honorable Mention…
Stillwater (2-0 start for the Ponies with a huge game against Cretin-Derham Hall Friday)
Bloomington Jefferson (2-0 start for Jaguars but a chance to prove themselves at Minnetonka Thursday)
Mankato West (2-0 start for perennial Big 9 power and a big game Friday against Owatonna)

The US Army Reserves MVP of the Week:
Maple Grove running back Tahi Nomane. The 5’11”, 208 lb. senior had 28 carries for 296 yards and one touchdown in the Crimson win at Hopkins Friday night 23-14. In the opener against Armstrong, Nomane scored 4 touchdowns and piled up 246 yards on just 11 carries.  Next for Nomane and the Crimson is Elk River!

Stillwater vs. Cretin-Derham Hall (Suburban East Tilt at St. Thomas- Shown on ESPN)
Orono at Hutchinson (Big Wright County tilt)
South St. Paul at Irondale (battle of unbeatens)
East Ridge vs. Woodbury (Huge rivalry game)
