MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — East Ridge’s Nick Leach turned heads as one of the state’s leading rushers, and the following is why he was named the ASPIRE Athlete of the Week for Sept. 27.

Racking up 200 yard a game is no sweat for Leach.

“It’s great making them miss or making them pay,” he said. “My running back coach told me that and it’s our motto together.”

His style has caught the attention of colleges.

“Minnesota — probably a preferred walk-on there,” he said. “Then North Dakota, Northa Dakota State, Illnios and Toledo.”

And he’s a big part of why his team started 4-0, with plenty of help.

“This team is one of the best high school football teams by far,” he said.

The bad news is his season came to an end for Leach last week as he tore his ACL. Reduced to a limp, he’s now a cheerleader.

“I want to make it positive,” he said. “Everything happens for a reason. You have to know you’ll come back stronger and better than what it was before.”
