Authorities Believe Missing 'U' Student Is Dead

ROSEVILLE, Minn. (WCCO) -- Police say they have new evidence that has led them to believe a missing University of Minnesota student is no longer alive.

Anarae Schunk has been missing for more than a week. She was last seen with her ex-boyfriend outside a Burnsville bar.

That's the night police say her ex -- Shavelle Chavez-Nelson -- shot and killed a man outside that bar.

Police have reportedly told Schunk's family that her bloody jacket has been found. Police say the jacket was punctured 18 to 20 times. Investigators reportedly told the family that could indicate stab wounds.

Family and friends of Schunk are helping her family search for her in Lilydale near Pickeral Lake. There are other areas around Highway 46 near Rosemount and Farmington where authorities believe she may be, as well.

This is a place her brother Owen had heard that is possibly an area that needed to be searched," said Gary Davis, whose children were friends with Schunk. "We were asked to come out here and asked to see if we could find anything."

Police say Chavez-Nelson is not talking when it comes to what happened after they were seen leaving that bar shooting more than a week ago. That was the last time anyone saw Schunk.
