MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A man killed in a Minneapolis shooting Saturday has been identified by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner.

The Medical Examiner says 22-year-old Willie James Smith III of St. Paul died of a gunshot wound to the chest in a shooting Saturday morning on Franklin Avenue.

Police were called to an area near 21st Avenue South and East Franklin Avenue, and that’s where a fight broke out about two hours before bar close.

The crowd was broken up, but police say they returned to the site with guns.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene and another taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Minneapolis police do not have anyone in custody and the investigation remains open.
