Time Running Short For Vets To Claim Minn. Credit

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- There's a week left for Minnesota troops and veterans to file for a tax credit designed to recognize their combat service.

About 2,200 still hadn't filed for the refundable tax credit as of last week, according to the Minnesota Department of Revenue.

The credit must be claimed by Oct. 15. It applies to those who served in a combat zone or qualified hazardous duty area in 2009. It amounts to $120 per month served.

Similar tax credits are available for 2010 through 2012. To get them, the soldiers must file a special form and supply supporting documents.
