Savvy QB/WR Combo Leads S. St. Paul, Maybe To A State Title

SOUTH ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- One team that makes the WCCO High School Sports Rally highlights often is South St. Paul.

The Packers are unbeaten (6-0), ranked No. 2 in Class 4A, and have a senior class and passing combination that makes the Metrodome the obvious goal.

"We're a small school a class 4A school – we have a lot of body the senior class is 35 kids and they've bought into what we're asking," coach Chad Sezauer said.

Bill Brandecker is the quarterback, and Christian Rund his favorite target.

"I just sit back there in the pocket and we seem to know where each other are," Brandecker said. "My first read is always him and he always seems to be open."

They make plays that change games.

"We've gotten pretty familiar with each other," Rund said.

The senior class is now experiencing the fruits of their football labor.

"We knew this was going to be the big group because we've been together for so long," Brandecker said. "And knew we'd need to come together to play as a team."

They hope playing well outdoors on crisp fall nights leads to a trip indoors come November. This year will be the final Prep Bowl played at the Dome.

"If we take care of business, we'll be one of the best teams in the state," Rund said. "And I think it is state championship or bust tonight."
