MINNETONKA, Minn. (WCCO) – Authorities said one man is dead after being shot by an officer in Minnetonka Wednesday night.

Police responded to the Claremont Apartments on the 10700 block of Smetana Road at about 8:24 p.m. on a report of a person with a gun.

When authorities arrived, they encountered a man with a gun in the underground garage at the apartment complex. Gunfire was exchanged, and the male suspect was shot and killed at the scene.

Later Tuesday, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner identified the man as 27-year-old Michael Regner Tray of Austin, Minn. He died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Authorities said this was an isolated incident and there is no risk to the general public.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office said the incident is still under active investigation and will send out more information when ready.
