Midtown Global Market Hosts Day Of The Dead

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The trick or treating may be over from Halloween, but for some the celebrating is just starting.

You and your family can get in on the action this weekend at Midtown Global Market in Minneapolis, where they're hosting the Mexican celebration Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. It's a celebration over several days that honors those who have died before us.

Families put up displays of things people who have died enjoyed and ways they celebrated their life. Food is also a major part of the celebration as it's part of the Mexican heritage to eat a lot at family events. The food that is made is put on an ofrenda, which is the display put up to honor the dead.

Popular ingredients in the food for the celebrations include chilis, tomatoes, onions and spices. Chocolate is also a popular ingredient, and it's all mixed with Mexican foods like tamales.
