MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/AP) — Minnesota’s third win in a row has produced a couple of rewards.

Quarterback Philip Nelson was named the Big Ten’s co-offensive player of the week, and punter Peter Mortell was picked as the conference’s special teams player of the week.

The awards were announced Monday, reflecting their performances Saturday in the 42-39 victory at Indiana.

Nelson notched career highs with 16 completions, 298 yards and four touchdowns passing to share the honor with Penn State running back Bill Belton.

Adam Weber in 2009 was the last Gophers player to win the Big Ten’s weekly offensive award.

Mortell averaged 43 yards on five punts, including a long of 52 and two placed inside Indiana’s 20.

Kicker Chris Hawthorne was the winner last week.

The Gophers (7-2, 3-2) host Penn State (5-3, 2-2) on Saturday.
